How to craft a resume that stands out
Recruiters skim resumes before reading. Make key parts stand out and support your statements with facts.
1. Contact details
Put your full name at the top, then your city, phone number, and a checked email address. Use a plain email with your name, not a nickname. Add a LinkedIn or portfolio link only if updated. Full address, birthdate, father's name, and marital status aren't necessary.
2. Summary
Write two or three lines on who you are, your strengths, and the job you seek. Include the role and one or two skills from the job post. Freshers can mention their degree and a project or internship; experienced candidates should lead with years of work and an achievement. Skip clichés like “hard-working team player.”
3. Work history, include figures
List jobs and internships starting with the latest: job title, company, city, and dates. Under each, add two to five points starting with a verb and showing a result, like “Handled 60 customer calls daily”, “Reduced stock errors by 15%” or “Trained 4 new hires”. Numbers make claims believable and easy to spot.
4. Education
Start with your highest qualification: degree, college, years, and score (CGPA or percentage). Freshers can include Class XII and Class X; after a few years, the degree is enough. Still studying? Write the expected year, like “2026 (expected)”.
5. Skills
List tools and skills the job requires that you genuinely know, such as Tally, Excel, SQL, or spoken English. Use exact job post words where true, as recruiters and ATS look for them. Leave out anything you couldn't discuss in an interview.
6. Projects for freshers
If you have little or no work history, projects are your evidence. List college or final-year projects, and any freelance or volunteer work: what you did, the tools used, and the outcomes. Add a link (GitHub, portfolio or live site) if available.
Fresher resume format
A fresher's resume should be one page with a single column, ordered like this:
- Name and contact information
- Brief summary (two or three lines)
- Projects
- Internships and part-time roles
- Education with scores
- Skills
- Certifications, languages and notable achievements

Ensure your resume is ATS-friendly
Employers and job sites often use applicant tracking systems (ATS) to scan resumes. Follow these tips to keep yours readable:
- Stick to one column of plain text. Tables, text boxes, photos, icons, and skill bars confuse the software. Every resume from this builder follows this rule.
- Use standard headings like Experience, Education, and Skills so the software knows where each part starts.
- Use the job post's words for skills and job titles if they truthfully describe you.
- Send a PDF made from text, like those this builder makes, or a Word file. A scan or a photo of a printed resume can't be read.
- Write dates the same way everywhere, for example, “Jun 2023 – Present”.
- Place your name and contact details in the main body, not in a header or footer.
