How the calculation is done
- Gross salary = CTC minus the employer's PF and gratuity, if they are part of your CTC.
- Your PF (12% of basic, or ₹15,000 a month if capped) and professional tax are deducted from the gross salary.
- Taxable income = gross salary less the standard deduction (₹75,000 new, ₹50,000 old). The old regime also subtracts professional tax, 80C (including your PF), and other deductions.
- Income tax is calculated based on slabs, minus the Section 87A rebate, plus a surcharge over ₹50 lakh, and a 4% health and education cess.
